The Bachelorette’s Ryan Sutter admits his cryptic posts about wife Trista ‘blew up in my face’ – as fans feared the most over her absence

Ryan Sutter has admitted that the cryptic Instagram posts he made about his wife Trista Sutter in May, which sparked divorce rumors, were not good for him and their family.

The 49-year-old father-of-two told Chris Harrison in the latest episode of the series Most dramatic podcast ever that Trista, 51, left home in May for a then-undisclosed reason — which turned out to be a new reality TV opportunity for the inaugural Bachelorette star.

Unable to talk to his wife while she competed on Fox’s Special Forces: World’s Toughest Test, Ryan used Instagram to share messages that Trista was later able to find.

“Trista wouldn’t be able to access social media until she was done with this experience she was going through,” Ryan said.

He reiterated, “So I was going to post these things knowing that as soon as she had access to it, she would look at it and she could see, ‘This is what happened while you were gone.’ This is how much we missed you.”

“It just blew up in my face and backfired,” he said on Monday’s podcast episode.

‘If something really bad happened in my life, I wouldn’t tell anyone. Most of my personal life remains quite personal,” he clarified.

The former TV personality noted that he uses social media to remember the “emotional state” he was in when he posted certain captions.

Weeks ago, Sutter worried fans when he started sharing cryptic messages about “missing” his wife of 20 years, who was “in a place in life where she was kind of searching.”

When Trista, a physical therapist, finally returned to social media in late May, she joked, “Gosh people. Can’t a girl here have a nervous breakdown/trial separation/midlife crisis/death/divorce in peace?!”

‘An opportunity for perspective and personal growth presented itself and with the unconditional support of my family and friends, I chose myself and improvement, knowing that my job as a stay-at-home mom and my children’s needs at the end of the school year were in the best , most capable hands,” Ms. Sutter explained in a lengthy May 25 Instagram caption.

She added, “My stoic husband, who usually prefers privacy to posting, decided to share his love for me in posts that would find me on my travels. We think of Instagram as a digital diary. Usually the world doesn’t pay too much attention to it.

‘This time he couldn’t say anything good and virtually every news outlet picked up his ‘cryptic/confusing/attention seeking/dramatic’ photos and captions. For me, they gave me exactly what my words of affirming love language needed to get me through some serious self-doubt and fear…and that’s all that matters.”

Trista’s appearance on the third season of Fox’s Special Forces is “expected sometime this fall,” according to TMZ.

She took to Instagram to wish her husband a happy Father’s Day on Sunday and shared a video montage of him and their family.

‘Good days with the best father. Really. One who always provides laughter, adventure, support, guidance, love and fun,” her caption read.

It continued, “We love you @ryansutter and with you these hours, seconds and minutes will never be wasted. #HappyFathersDay #grateful.”
