The Asus Zenbook Duo 2024 is the world’s first OLED laptop with two screens
Asus is refreshing its Zenbook Duo series with a new 2024 model, which the company claims is “the world’s first dual-screen 14-inch OLED laptop.”
Technically that is incorrect. Previous models in the line, such as the Zenbook Pro 14 Duo, had a second OLED display, although that second screen was considerably smaller. It’s more accurate to say that this is the first laptop with two Asus Lumina OLED displays of equal size. Each half, according to the announcement, consists of a 14-inch touchscreen with 3K resolution (2,880 x 1,800 pixels) and a refresh rate of up to 120 Hz. They support multiple digital color standards, such as Dolby Vision for vivid images, and DisplayHDR True Black 500 for deep blacks on the screen.
The laptop comes with a full-size Asus ErgoSense keyboard that can be removed and used wirelessly via a Bluetooth connection. Additionally, the two screens are attached together with a 180-degree hinge so you can lay them flat, effectively turning the laptop into a tablet.
Only for your eyes
The Zenbook Duo 2024 comes with plenty of software features, but the most important of them are the viewing modes. The four available provide users with alternative ways to manage the content on their screen.
The Dual Screen mode allows you to combine the two screens into one large screen of 19.8 inches diagonal. Users must activate ViewMax to merge the two. Of course, you can deactivate it at any time to split them into separate windows. Desktop mode shifts the page orientation from landscape to portrait, which the company says is perfect for programmers, writers or financial analysts looking at data sheets.
Laptop mode is, as the name suggests, your ‘traditional laptop-like experience’, where the images are overlaid on top of each other. Asus recommends reattaching the keyboard to the Zenbook Duo to get the most out of this orientation. Then there’s share mode, which makes it easier to present content on the laptop. It’s similar to Dual Screen, but the main difference is that images on the top half can be moved 180 degrees as needed.
Hardware specifications
Under the hood, the Zenbook Duo 2024 is powered by an Intel Core Ultra processor combined with a Neural Processing Unit, or NPU for short. This technology uses AI acceleration to further improve hardware performance. Interestingly, but not entirely surprising, the model includes an NPU. We saw many other laptops at CES 2024, such as the Dell XPS 16, that included a similar device. It makes sense that Asus would also jump on this bandwagon.
It’s a lightweight machine, weighing 1.35kg (just under 3lbs) and measuring 14.6mm when closed – that’s about half an inch. Other notable features include ScreenXpert that enables multi-touch gestures, Harman Kardon-certified speakers for immersive audio, and up to 2TB storage capacity.
It is unknown when the Zenbook Duo 2024 will be launched and how much it will cost. We’ve reached out to Asus for more information. This story will be updated at a later date.
