The Apple Watch 10 could get two big health-tracking upgrades

When the Apple Watch 10 (or possibly the Apple Watch

In a comprehensive overview of Apple’s plans for its Apple Health platform Bloomberg (through MacRumors), we hear that “hypertension and sleep apnea detection for the watch” are on the roadmap for its 2024 smartwatches.

The article goes on to say that the blood pressure monitoring will be relatively simple, compared to a special device: it will apparently alert users when their blood pressure rises, and allow them to take note of what was happening at that moment.

Apple Watch 10 owners will still be asked to consult a doctor when it comes to blood pressure, and there won’t be much to say about the diagnosis of the hardware itself. This “mix of fear and ambition” reflects Apple’s overall health strategy at the moment, according to Bloomberg.

As for the sleep apnea detection also planned for the Apple Watch 10, it will use sleep and breathing patterns to try to identify when the problem could be a problem, before again advising the user to see a healthcare provider .

Efforts to add non-invasive blood glucose monitoring to the Apple Watch are continuing, Bloomberg says, although the feature — which would be very useful for diabetics — probably won’t appear for a few years.

We previously heard from Bloomberg that the Apple Watch 10 is in line for a new design, with a thinner form factor. Blood pressure monitoring for the wearable has also been rumored for years, with the latest leak suggesting it could arrive in 2024 or 2025.

So while these rumors aren’t entirely new, we haven’t heard about them in such detail before. If Apple follows its usual 2024 product launch schedule, the Apple Watch 10 should arrive in September (and perhaps without the Apple Watch Ultra 3).
