With the Apple Vision Pro going on sale in the coming weeks, we're looking forward to putting it through its paces – but the rumors and leaks have already started about what Apple could do as a follow-up to the mixed reality headset.
According to market research agency Omdia (via The Electric And MacRumors), the Apple Vision Pro 2 is poised to get displays that are brighter and more efficient than those in the current model. They will also reportedly use more advanced micro-OLED technology.
This will apparently be the result of a move to a standard called RGB OLEDoS, which produces light and color directly from the RGB sub-pixels. There is no need for a color filter anymore, improving the user experience when it comes to the images.
Samsung is expected to be the manufacturer making the necessary panels, but you've got some time to spare first – the Apple Vision Pro 2 is said to launch in 2027, which is further back than some previous rumors we've come across about .
Maintaining the vision
The Apple Vision Pro isn't available to consumers yet, but it got its big reveal in June. We know prices will start at a hefty $3,499 – that's around £2,755 or AU$5,145, although what it will cost internationally has yet to be confirmed.
Ny Breaking is one of the few tech news outlets that was able to spend some time testing the Apple Vision Pro before it goes on sale, and we're particularly impressed with the spatial 3D video the headset can display.
It is also capable of displaying 2D videos and other digital elements on virtual screens, and you can also use it for video conferencing. It could prove to be a powerful tool for both productivity and escapism, but we'll have to wait until we review it to know for sure.
Ever since Apple announced the device existed, we've seen hints at how it might be sold in stores, and the latest rumors suggest it will be available in early February. After that, it should become one of the hottest tech topics of 2024.
