The Analogue Pocket will be released in Game Boy Color colors on September 12

I sometimes forget things like my own birthday or how to properly use a semicolon; but anyone who’s ever owned a Game Boy Color probably remembers which color they had or wanted (Kiwi Green, personally). Analogue is introducing six new colors for its enthusiast-friendly retro gaming handheld, the Analogue Pocket. Five of the colors are inspired by the original treatments given to the Game Boy Color, while the glossy gold color is an Analogue original. Each new color is available directly from the Analog store for $249.99 starting September 12th at 11am EST, while supplies last.

The hardware inside these new models remains unchanged from the original iteration of the Analogue Pocket, but they’re a welcome departure from the standard black-and-white models that launched in 2021 (speaking of those original color schemes, Analogue tells us those will be back in stock starting September 12). Analogue has previously made limited quantities of transparent, pastel, and metallic versions of the Analogue Pocket, but this marks the first nod to the Game Boy Color.

Since its launch, the Analogue Pocket has remained a popular option in a sea of cheaper alternatives, largely because it can play cartridge-based Game Boy games natively without the need for emulation. The Pocket is roughly the same size as an unfolded Game Boy Advance SP, but features a gorgeous matte finish, remappable buttons, and a 3.5-inch LCD screen that supports 1600 x 1440 resolution.

The Analogue Pocket comes standard with the ability to play Game Boy, Game Boy Color and Game Boy Advance cartridges, but a range of adapters (sold separately) allows the Pocket to play cartridges for the Game Gear, Neo Geo Pocket, Atari Lynx and more.

The latest releases of Analogue Pocket tend to sell out quickly, so you’ll want to think carefully if you plan on picking up one of these gorgeous new colors.
