Travel experts from TripSavvy called Syracuse, New York, the snowiest city in the world this year.
This popular New York city is known for its heavy snowfall, with 200 inches of snow falling during the 1992-1993 winter season.
Syracuse is no stranger to noticeably snowy weather, having been voted among the snowiest cities in the US several times.
In November 2023, it was also covered in snow, and there were wind gusts of 55 km per hour during the city’s blizzard-like conditions.

Some of Syracuse’s snowfall comes from its proximity to the Great Lakes, including Lake Ontario.
The lake effect precipitation happens when air entering the region from the west or northwest turns to heavy rain or snow over warmer lakes.
Syracuse often sees this weather pattern because it is located just east of Lake Ontario.
However, lake effect systems occasionally linger over the region, creating snowstorms that can cover Syracuse with three feet of snow in a day.
Syracuse has had a long history of heavy snowfall over the years.
One of the city’s memorable storms, known as the Blizzard of 1925struck Syracuse between January 29 and January 31.
About 10 inches (27.5 centimeters) of snow covered Upstate New York City that day.
Another famous storm was the Blizzard of 1993, which according to Cornell University.
Syracuse concluded that 43 inches fell during the 1993 snowstorm, causing Cornell’s first weather-related closure of the university in more than two decades.

Bill Hane, Operations Manager at Four Seasons Ski Center, revealed to NNC News that the company had to change the way it operated and “rely more on heavy snowfall.”
David Popp, a professor at Syracuse University, added that artificial snow reliability would also have made things more expensive.
It’s unclear how much snow Syracuse, New York, will get this winter, but the Farmer’s Almanac predicts a much wetter winter.
“Brace for a season of rapid-fire storms that will bring both rain and snow, with little respite in between,” the Farmer’s almanac read.
