The 30-year-old Ford Fiesta with 140 miles on the odometer: Scottish car dealer asks £13,000 for the ‘lowest mileage example in existence’

There is no car more popular in Britain than the Ford Fiesta.

With sales of 4.8 million in Britain (22 million worldwide) and topping our annual registration charts 17 times in its 47-year history, the plucky little Ford is today the most common model on our roads, with around 1 .5 million copies still in use.

However, there is no second one like the one currently being sold by a Scottish car dealer.

The 1992 Mk3 Fiesta has only driven 140 miles in its 32-year lifespan – that’s an average of 4.5 miles per year.

Interested? If so, you’ll need to fork out £13,000 if you want it in your driveway.

Since Ford made the bold decision to sell off the Fiesta last summer, desirable iterations – such as the XR2i – have been widely expected to increase in value.

However, relatively modest and common examples are predicted not to increase in value at the same rate.

But this average silver 1.4-liter Fiesta in top-end Ghia trim – which would have cost ten cents in the registration year 1992 – is especially special because of its incredibly low mileage.

Alan Potts, owner of classic Ford car dealer Car Cave Scotlandbased in Midlothian and now offering a vehicle for sale, says it was used sparingly by the original owner.

The first owner, of Potters Bar on the outskirts of London, bought it new in January 1992 and drove it until it became too ill to drive on the road.

After deciding to stop driving, he donated the vehicle to his daughter even though she had failed her test.

Since the car had too much sentimental value to let go, she kept the engine until 2019, when she eventually sold it to a car enthusiast.

In the hands of the third keeper, they continued to carefully maintain the vehicle to ensure its perfect condition.

MOT data even shows that the car was last tested in 2018. At the time, it had 137 miles on the odometer, meaning the new owner has likely only added 2 miles since becoming its keeper.

Potts believes the car has never seen rain and finds it ‘remarkable’ with all original parts and the original invoice for the car.

He says it’s highly unlikely that a more original model of the car exists and that it even still has that new car smell.

“This is an exceptional small car and possibly the lowest mileage Mk3 Fiesta in existence,” he explained.

‘We have the original bill of sale (which is £9,700) with the car, original manuals, two keys, a dealer key fob, a dealer mat, the current V5 and the previous V5 with all owners listed. The car is remarkable and has never seen rain.

“It has all the original panels. Underside is like new.

‘The paintwork is still beautiful – no signs of rust or wear. There are a few very minor chips on the door edge and a few chips on top of the hood during storage. Overall, you won’t get a more original example than this.

‘Underneath all the PDI markings are clearly visible and everything is like new.’

Mr Potts added: ‘It still smells like new inside. It is immaculate as you would expect, with no wear to the steering wheel, pedal pads or gear knob.

“I’m not sure we’ll ever see one like this again.”

Mechanically, the Fiesta is as it was when it left the factory, apart from a timing belt replacement a few years ago at just 120 miles.

‘It starts, runs and drives. The brakes feel a bit spongy and may need to be bled as they are not being used. I suspect if anyone buys this it will be for display rather than heavy use,” the sale description reads.

Incredibly, the car still has its original tires, although these will need to be replaced immediately if the new owner wants the car to pass its MOT.

At £12,995 it’s a high price to pay for a less than desirable car. Although the chance of another 220 kilometer Mk3 Fiesta passing by is exceptionally small.
