The 10 fastest selling used cars all take 15 days or less to shift

Selling a used car can sometimes be a tough job.

Placing an ad, taking calls from tire dealers, and carve out the time to visit and test drive potential buyers can take up a lot of your time.

But not if you own one of the fastest selling engines we can exclusively reveal.

That’s according to one of the country’s largest used car marketplaces, which says the fastest-selling model is a German SUV that is advertised – on average – for just 11 days before a buyer is found.

The car with the shortest sales time of all is BMW’s X1.

The compact SUV will fly from the gas station in just a week and a half, he claims.

The data is based on the average time of sale recorded on one of the leading online used car marketplaces between June 2022 and June 2023.

And they all moved – on average – in less than 15 days.

That compares to an average across all models of just over a month on sale (34 days), it said.

While this is good news for owners of the fastest selling models, for potential buyers looking to get their hands on one, it suggests that you need to act fast – and make a good offer – to secure one of these cars before someone else does.

All but one of the models in the list (Ford’s Galaxy) are classified as “near new,” meaning they are less than a year old.

The short sales periods are also a result of the ongoing shortage of new vehicles, with demand in the second-hand market at an all-time high since the pandemic.

Second in the list behind the BMW X1 is Lexus’ own compact SUV – the hybrid NX350h, which takes an average of just 12 days to get going.

kia’s Ceed hatchback and Sportage SUV, Honda’s Civic family car, Audi’s EQ2 fast SUV and Jaguar’s posh E-Pace tied for third place, all with an average of 13 days to sell.

Dacia’s Duster, one of the most affordable family cars on the market, is tied for eighth place for short sales times with Ford’s Galaxy MPV, which is favored by large families with limited vehicle choice as well as taxi and shuttle companies.

The last place in the top 10 is the DS 3 Crossback, which has to wait an average of 15 days on the second-hand market until a buyer is found.

The second fastest selling used car of them all is the Lexus NX350h hybrid, which takes just 12 days on average

The larger Kia Sportage also takes just 13 days to sell after first being listed online, Auto Trader claims

Honda’s Civic has been a popular choice in Britain for decades. ‘Almost new’ specimens can find a new holder in an average of 13 days

Commenting on the findings, Erin Baker, editor at Auto Trader, said: ‘With nine of the UK’s 10 fastest selling cars last year being under 12 months old, the shortage of brand new cars continues to heavily influence car buying decisions.

“While the supply of new cars is slowly improving, many buyers of brand new cars who don’t want to wait, prefer to turn to the used market for ‘almost new’ alternatives.

It is also interesting to note that hybrid models made up the majority of the fastest selling models.

“All-electric prices are softening, but they’re not quite within reach for many, so for those car buyers who still want high fuel economy and lower emissions than traditionally powered vehicles, but without the price tag, hybrids are a good option.”

The Audi SQ2 is another car that takes an average of just 13 days to sell after being first posted online

Jaguar’s E-Pace is the smallest SUV. The compact model also only needs 13 days to find a new owner, according to the data

Large families have a very limited choice of cars and very few high quality large MPVs are available. One of them is the Ford Galaxy, which is why they sell out within 14 days on average

The 10th fastest selling car is the DS3 Crossback, which is likely to attract second-hand buyers with its unique looks and low selling price. They shift in 15 days on average, Auto Trader estimates
