Gary Neville praised Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford for his header against West Ham, with the hosts taking the lead at Old Trafford on Sunday night.

Rashford arrived late and met a cross from Christan Eriksen with a ball as United scored the opening goal of the game in the 38th minute, the Englishman’s second goal in successive games.

The 24-year-old scored his 100th Man United goal against West Ham while demonstrating his aerial skills against a long traveling defence.

Commenting on the goal on Sky Sports, former United fullback Gary Neville compared Rashford’s goal to the exploits of his team-mate Cristiano Ronaldo, who is regarded as one of the world’s greatest headers.

“I haven’t seen Rashford do that very often,” Neville said in a Sky Sports commentary.

He has one of the best headers in the world to watch in Cristiano Ronaldo’s training. That was just like him.

“It’s lovely, Eriksen’s ball just drives it into an area, the right-back is static, Rashford on the move.”

Coincidentally, Rashford scored with a header on his Premier League debut as the then 18-year-old grabbed a brace in the 3-2 win over Arsene Wenger’s Arsenal.

Neville was backed by fellow former United striker Louis Saha, who scored 17 headers for the club, with the Frenchman praising Rashford’s aggression in getting himself into a goal-scoring position.

In his rest analysis, Saha said: “It’s something I remember Cristiano did during the European Championship, where he attacked the ball.

“Having that aggression is something that says, ‘Hold on, I can be a striker and be the man you can rely on and if you get that aggression in the penalty area, you can score.

“He has proven this and I think he will do that more. Great position, he is already in the penalty area and again attacks this cross with confidence. Everything is in his head, he is ready to attack the box again.’
