A floating restaurant in the Russian city of Saint Petersburg has overturned and sank in an icy river.
The ‘Silver Whale’ restaurant, moored on the Neva River in St Petersburg, was photographed on its side today.
It was ‘flooded’ at around 7:30 am due to damage caused by the icy conditions of the river. according to Russian officials.
The local transport agency is now investigating whether health and safety regulations for the vessel, which was reportedly unused, were being followed.
The owners of the boat initially wanted to dock it on the Moskva River, Moscow, but the project was not agreed, so it was moved to Saint Petersburg in 2018.

But the restaurant never opened and in September 2022 it went up for sale for about £372,000 or 35 million rubles.
One Twitter user said, “In St. Petersburg on the Neva, the floating restaurant “Silver Whale” is sinking.
“At first, owners wanted to install it on the Moscow River, but they could not, the owner moved it to St. Petersburg and “deposited” it near the Babushkin Park. But the institution never opened and it was put up for sale for 35 million rubles.”
Another user added, “I remember this thing, passed by. But it’s probably for the best, he looked ugly somehow.”
Meanwhile, another user showed remorse and added, “Wow. All the while I admired it. Nice.’
