Theaters were unprepared to deal with legions of moviegoers pouring their hearts out Badwhich in my professional opinion is a mistake in the sheer passion that entails Bad particularly inspiring. It’s not just a musical for theater lovers; it’s a musical with such a far-reaching reach and audience, with music that’s just so damn sing-along. Even The Rock contributed to this!
But thankfully, Universal is correcting this mistake with a series of special sing-along screenings debuting in more than 1,000 theaters nationwide starting December 25. Huzzah! During these special screenings, the texts are displayed on the screen, just in case not know all the words “Popular”. (Couldn’t be me.) There will also be a special intro from stars Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande.
“The overwhelming response to Bad was remarkable,” said Jim Orr, president of domestic theatrical distribution for Universal Pictures, in a press release. “These sing-along screenings offer fans a unique opportunity to be part of the story they have so enthusiastically embraced. There is something extraordinarily special about experiencing this beloved musical together as a community, and we are thrilled to create this opportunity this holiday season.”
I just think more movie musicals should come out with a sing-along version from the beginning – it’s a win-win! More tickets sold, less chance to annoy your fellow theatergoers, more chances for a wonderfully transcendent experience while singing along with other superfans.
Anyway, time for me to buy tickets for my third viewing of Bad. Tickets are available now.
