Texas woman says she almost died after someone hurled a SPEAR through her car window in ‘random attack’ while she was driving – with weapon missing her by inches

A Texas motorist was left reeling after a spear crashed through her windshield Sunday in a seemingly random attack that left police at a loss.

Shavone Canales, a 36-year-old mother from San Antonio, took out her cell phone to document the aftermath of the incident and show how close she was to death by the belligerent weapon.

The clip was then posted the clip on TikTok where it garnered over 8 million views, with users expressing disbelief at what they saw.

Behind the camera, Canales can be heard saying, “She almost died” by the five-foot-long pike, which stopped inches from where she had been. An aid worker is seen expressing similar sentiments, as he pulls the spear from her windshield and tells Canales to count her blessings for being alive.

Canales calls the attack “completely random” and also says she was “going 40 to 45 miles per hour” when the spear shattered the glass inches from her face.

Local officers said on Tuesday they have no suspect, but added that the case is being investigated as aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

“I heard an explosion and I dove down, and when I looked up there was a whole spear there,” Canales, who was driving to a friend’s house at 9:15 p.m. when the incident happened, recalled the San Antonio Express News Tuesday, as her clip continued to circulate.

“It was quite a frightening event,” she added in one of the two TikToks. “I didn’t expect that.”

She said she stopped and called 911 seconds after the close call.

The spear’s sharp end reached nearly the entire width of her vehicle, which was struck as it passed the Best Western Hotel at 8669 Interstate 10 as Canales was about to merge onto the highway.

“So yeah, guys, I almost died,” says Canales.

β€œSomeone threw a spear through my car tonight and I wanted to show you how bad it is.

β€œIt wasn’t a traffic rage or anything. This was unprovoked and completely random.’

Her second video shows a San Antonio Police Department officer struggling to remove the weapon, after Canales said she waited by the side of the road for police to arrive.

“That’s insane,” says the cop, before adding, “You could have died.”

Since officers have yet to make an arrest, she also theorized that whoever threw the hunting weapon must have had some experience.

β€œI was going 40, 45 miles an hour. Their precision was pretty insane.”

While remarkably unharmed herself, Canales said she will have to pay more than $400 for a replacement windshield.

San Antonio police said Tuesday they have not yet identified a suspect in the case.

The incident takes place during a period of outspoken crime in the South Texas town.

Currently, the state has a violent crime rate of 735 incidents per 100,000 people, compared to the corresponding rate in the notoriously crime-ridden Golden State, which is roughly 447 per 100,000 people.

For reference, the U.S. average for violent crime is roughly 388 per 100,000 people.

In addition, the city – like several others – also saw an increase in overall crime during the pandemic and into 2022, a trend that appears to have continued through the first half of 2023 so far.

Despite this, Canales said she remains hopeful that if they don’t turn themselves in first, the officers will locate those responsible for the spear attack.

“I just hope someone comes forward,” she said Express news Tuesday. β€œIf it hadn’t been me, it would have been someone else. I just hope, now that it’s getting enough attention, they won’t try this again.’
