Texas Tech kicker unveils MAGA touchdown celebration after stunning TCU’s special teams on trick play
Texas Tech kicker Reese Burkhardt unveiled a MAGA-inspired touchdown celebration after scoring on a trick play against TCU on Saturday.
The unlikely moment came in the first quarter in Forth Worth, after Burkhardt lined up for a field goal but then got a throw from holder Jack Burgess on a sweep to the right. Burkhardt beat the Horned Frogs’ special teams to the end zone and quickly moved to lift his jersey and expose his undershirt.
As captured by Fox Sports cameras, but not network announcers, Burkhardt had “Trump 24 MAGA” written on his undershirt.
Unfortunately for Burkhardt, a senior from Alabama, he would miss a 50-yard field goal before TCU sealed a 35-34 comeback victory over the Red Raiders.
Despite the loss, Burkhardt received some praise online for his pro-Donald Trump demonstration.

“This is the best thing you will see in college football today,” wrote Derrick Evans, a former member of the West Virginia House of Representatives and one of the Trump supporters arrested for storming the U.S. Capitol on January 6, 2021.
But many others were angry about Burkhardt’s decision to combine politics and football.
“Keep politics out of sports, I thought,” someone wrote on X.
But the overwhelming response to X instead focused on missing a 50-yard field goal attempt in a game the Red Raiders lost by one point.
“In the end they missed the field goal and lost the game,” one fan wrote. “Maybe next time keep politics out of sports lol.”
“I’m so glad they lost after this stupid stunt,” one Ohio State fan wrote on X. “I had absolutely no interest in that game until I saw that and had to tune in and compete against them. I was cheering so hard at the last play when it was clear they were going to lose. Just like Trump will lose in ten days.”
One respondent compared the celebration to Trump’s claim in 2020 that he had actually won that year’s election.
“Sounds like he was celebrating prematurely like Trump did in 2020,” one fan joked.
