A Texas school bus driver has been suspended after nearly hitting three children shortly after they were dropped off after school on Wednesday.

The heartbreaking moment was captured on dashcam footage, which shows the big yellow bus pulling forward as three six-year-olds cross the street in Denton.

One child, dressed in a green top, retreats to the safety of the grass edge.

Two others, holding hands, quickly run forward out of the path of the vehicle and toward their waiting parents.

A horrified mother screams “what the heck” and calls on her daughter to get out of the way.

“I was less than twenty feet away from him and I couldn’t have helped him,” Matt McCormick, who picked up his son, the boy dressed in green in the footage, after school, told Fox4.

“I didn’t even give the time that someone was across the street. Nothing. Just bye.

“Once I knew he was fine, I was more upset than anything that anyone could let that happen,” he said.

He added: “They don’t know what they’re doing when it comes to hiring drivers.”

“If he had slipped or something, he would have been under the front wheels,” McCormick told NBC.

“What bothers me the most is that he didn’t even stop to slow down or see if the kids were okay. He went on and on, and that’s unacceptable.’

The boy’s father filed a complaint with the Denton Independent School District, north of Dallas, that same day, attaching the video.

Although the school responded with an email, they offered no explanation, McCormick told the outlet.

The driver was later suspended on administrative leave while the district continues to investigate the incident.

In a statement confirming the driver’s suspension, Denton ISD said it “has been in direct contact with the families of our affected students, and they seem confident in our solution.”

However, it would not release the identity of the bus driver or provide further details about an active investigation.
