A Texas town has been hit by wild vandalism by nasty creatures out to ruin the holidays: rabbits.

The bunnies are accused of chewing electrical cords, breaking ceramic statues and leaving a huge mess among the decorations.

The Hutto Police Department issued a public notice Thursday informing residents that their “native cottontail,” which is normally “timid and docile,” is causing havoc.

Police said: 'Every year around the holidays, these cute and fluffy bunnies go on rampant crime sprees, noting that the 'prime suspect will look a lot more like Bugs Bunny than the neighborhood kids.'

“They commit seemingly random vandalism while besmirching the reputation of our local youth.”

A woman named Jackie Lord, who called the perpetrators “little jerks,” wrote after seeing the advice that she “learned that quickly” and then posted a sad emoji face to express her sadness: “the little jerks got me the day after my decorations went up.”

Authorities urged homeowners with bright decorations to be vigilant.

Officials added: 'The destructive and vengeful hare will bite 100% through the cord, causing the most damage in the least suitable spot.

Another homeowner who was stunned before the police advisory was posted said she had 'no idea what it was' when a similar incident happened to her last week, but seemed elated when she found out what had happened.

“You solved the case for us,” she said. “Good job, police.”

One resident, who seemed unfazed, said the first year they decorated their house they thought they were children.

Others took to Facebook to share some humorous photos of the tormentor, while others said the bunny officials pictured were 'not' a cottontail.

Some handed out advice, telling some homeowners to buy a 'scarecrow', while others gave a more technical explanation and offered a DIY remedy.

“Domestic 'rabbit parent' community calls ANY wire or cord 'spicy hay,'” they wrote.

“If you have few areas to cover, Amazon and Home Depot sell wire covers – you can put the plug through clear or gray/white/black tubing, and the bunnies can't get to it.”

One person, who appeared to be an animal lover, wrote: 'Please be kind to the bunnies. We must share our world with all of God's creatures.'

Located in Williamson County, Texas and part of the Austin-Round Rock metropolitan area, Hutto has a population of more than 27,000.
