Texas, 28-year-old mother of five is struck and killed by a female driver outside her home

A Texas mother of five was killed when she was struck by a car in San Antonio while defending her 11-year-old daughter from bullies in the middle of the street.

Ashley Lopez, 28, was in the middle of an argument with another woman that police say contained at least 30 people and began an argument with another woman on the night of January 11.

Pennie Gomez, 36, who was involved, left and got into a silver Hyundai Sonata and intentionally drove into the two women, killing Lopez and injuring the woman she was fighting with.

To make matters worse, someone noticed Lopez was under Gomez’s car and tried to pull her out of the way when Gomez simply dove, dragging her 20 to 30 feet.

Witnesses caught the grisly incident on cell phone cameras and two passengers in Gomez’s car got out and returned to the scene to double check.

Lopez’s mother, Ana Blanco, spoke Sunday and said she only had one question: ‘Why would you do this?’

white said KENS5 Lopez was defending her 11-year-old daughter from school bullies who had shown up at her house when the fight broke out.

She and Lopez’s sister-in-law, Andrea Mata, say they believe Gomez’s daughter was living with Lopez at the time, though they say they don’t know her.

‘To our memory, [Lopez and Gomez] they weren’t fighting. There was nothing between them, no bad blood,” Mata said.

Gomez has been charged with murder and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. She He is currently being held in a county jail on a $251,000 bond.

She was already wanted on unrelated drug possession charges.

Lopez’s family is trying to raise money to alleviate funeral costs.

When asked about the hit-and-run, Gomez responded by demanding his right to a lawyer.

Blanco and Mata say they plan to attend the hearings in hopes of getting an answer about why López was killed.

For now, they have teamed up with a local motorcycle club to help raise money for Lopez’s funeral.

They also plan to host a fundraiser barbecue next weekend.
