Tessa Thompson put on yet another show-stopping display as she graced the red carpet for the Bardo premiere at the 79th Venice International Film Festival.

The actress, 38, commanded attention in a dramatic red hooded gown as she arrived for the premiere of Alejandro G Iñárritu’s latest epic after his 2017 Oscar winner The Revenant.

Bardo is a Mexican comedy, directed by Alejandro G Iñárritu, who won Oscar glory for his films Birdman and The Revenant.

The three-hour epic tells the tale of a Mexican journalist and documentary filmmaker, who is set to receive a prestigious Lifetime Achievement Award, but before that he makes a rare return to his home country to reconnect with loved ones.

The film stars Daniel Giménez Cacho in the leading role, alongside Griselda Siciliani, Ximena Lamadrid and Andrés Almeida.

Attracting the biggest stars, the film festival is held annually on the island of the Lido in the Venice Lagoon. With movie screenings taking place in the historic Palazzo del Cinema on the Lungomare Marconi. 

This year’s line up will see divisive biopic Blonde, starring Ana De Armas as tragic screen icon Marilyn Monroe, battle it out for the competition’s top accolade.

Brendan Fraser’s moving drama The Whale, where he plays an obese professor, will also compete alongside films starring Cate Blanchett, Hugh Jackman and Colin Farrell.
