Tesla recalls almost 35,000 cars over serious ‘manufacturing defect’ that could cause serious injury or death

Tesla has recalled more than 35,000 electric cars due to a manufacturing defect that could cause the hoods to fly up while driving.

Model Y and Model 3 vehicles produced between 2020 and 2024 are being recalled due to this issue.

“Due to a manufacturing defect, the hood latch may not detect when the driver opens the hood and therefore may not alert the driver to an ‘open hood’ situation,” the recall notice states.

‘If you drive with an unlocked hood, it could suddenly open while driving, obstructing the driver’s view.’

In total there are 34,993 cars with the defect.

Teslas with software version 2024.20.3 can drive fine, the company said.

The automaker is contacting owners of vehicles subject to the recall.
