A man who crashed into a Tesla while traveling at more than 100 mph on the streets of New York City was charged Wednesday with the death of his 18-year-old passenger.
A video shows the exact moment the luxury electric vehicle crashed into the wall of a residential care center in Brooklyn on June 10, 2021.
Mikhaylov, the driver, reportedly failed to properly complete a 90-degree turn while traveling at more than 100 mph and lost control of the vehicle.
The car then drove through a metal gate and hit two dumpsters before taking off and spinning nearly 40 feet in the air, eventually hitting the wall of the facility.
The charges were announced by Jonathan Mikhaylov, 23, by Brooklyn District Attorney Eric Gonzalez, who said the defendant’s “alleged reckless driving caused the death of a young man whose whole life lay ahead of him, leaving others injured.” ‘.
“My office will continue to fully investigate cases of violence against vehicles and prosecute drivers who break the law on our roads and endanger our communities,” he added.

Levy lived with his family in Mill Basin, Brooklyn. He had graduated from Yeshiva of Flatbush Joel Braverman High School just one day before the fatal crash
Mikhailov was charged with reckless manslaughter and criminal negligence after death.
One of the four passengers, Jack Levy, 18, was taken to Brookdale Hospital with serious head trauma. He died the next day.
Levy graduated just one day before the crash that took his life.
He had been a student at the Yeshiva of Flatbush Joel Braverman High School. The school plans to name its new fitness center after him.
Levy leaves behind his parents, two brothers and a sister.
Neighbors in his town of Mill Basin remembered him fondly.
“He was like my son. He always helped me here with my dogs. He would walk with me’, neighbor Marica Reisman recalls the … New York Daily News.
“He was a great, great boy.”
The other passengers, an 18-year-old, 22-year-old and 24-year-old, were also injured but recovered.
The second 18-year-old suffered injuries, including multiple fractures, a laceration to his liver and bruising to his lung. The 22-year-old suffered a fractured skull.
On Wednesday, a grand jury indicted Mikhailov on reckless manslaughter, culpable homicide and assault.
Bail was set for the defendant at $5,000 cash or $25,000 bail.
Mikhaylov is due to return to court on January 19, 2023 – He faces a maximum sentence of five to 15 years in prison if convicted of the most serious charges.
The case is being pursued by Senior Assistant District Attorney Jennifer DaRin.
