Terry Crews’ wife has revealed that her marriage to the America’s Got Talent host almost ended in divorce three times, but they managed to resolve their issues after the actor started ‘working on himself’.

In an exclusive interview with DailyMail.com, Rebecca King-Crews spoke about her husband of 35 years and how much she admires his ambition and tenacity, but also revealed that life hasn’t always been as smooth as they once almost experienced. homeless.

Rebecca, 58, opened up about the highs and lows of their relationship, explaining: “Our faith is a common ground, so we share those values and even if we don’t always live them, we try.

“There’s a certain kind of person that we both try to be and then we believe in the fact that we chose each other for a reason.”

“It’s funny because we’ve talked about this, because we’ve probably had two or three cases [where] we could have ended the marriage in 35 years. Every time we were in those crises, one of us wanted out, but the other didn’t, so the other fought.”

The couple (pictured in September) have had their fair share of ups and downs

The mother of five, who is opening a boutique store in Pasadena for her clothing line Rebecca Crews this week continued, “So the first time I wanted out, he fought for me. The second time he wanted out and I fought for him, and the third time he just had to admit his addiction and I kicked him out.

“He fell to the ground like a two-year-old and begged me not to leave him and I said, ‘Well, you screwed that up, you know,’ and he started working on himself and he’s a better person, but he it is possible. still getting better,” Rebecca continued.

Both Terry and Rebecca have spoken out about their marital problems in recent years, and in 2021, the White Chicks star admitted that his porn addiction nearly destroyed their relationship.

When Rebecca was asked about the secret to a long-lasting marriage, she said, “You have to make sure you get what you want and they get what they want. One of the reasons I was able to stay in my marriage is because I knew what I wanted when I got married.

“I knew I wanted a certain life, and it turned out he wanted what I wanted,” she said of Terry, whom she married in July 1989.

‘Sometimes people fall in love with people who don’t want what they want, who don’t want the same thing. One wants children, the other does not. That’s a recipe for disaster.

“So I hate to say it’s like a job interview, but it really was for me. “Knowing that Terry’s goals were very close to mine was a sign for me,” she added.

‘It’s been hard and my husband has spoken openly about the problems he was having, but deep down Terry was just a good guy and he was my friend.

“I loved him as a person before I was in love with him and he’s still my friend, and I’ll still cuss him out one minute and turn around and hug him the next minute and tell him ‘but you’re still always my boo,” Rebecca muttered.

The businesswoman said she still holds Terry to a certain ‘standard’, but admitted that forgiveness is also an important aspect of making their relationship work.

‘I’m always like, ‘look, we’re older now, it’s time for you to stop doing that’ and whatever it is, I tell him, ‘you know I love you, but you can do better’ , and he says, “I’m not perfect,” and I say, “No, but you can do better,” she revealed.

“And so I still hold him to a standard, but I also forgive him for things that maybe he never did that I wanted him to do, or things that he did that he shouldn’t have done, and forgiveness is another principle.

‘You can’t stay married [and] You can’t stay friends if you can’t forgive people, but you forgive them when they are truly sorry, you don’t give cheap forgiveness, you don’t just continue to tolerate bad behavior,” Rebecca explained.

“Sometimes you have to create some distance, or you have to say your prayers and go somewhere alone and let them feel the consequences of not having your company, and that’s what happened when we had our moment. I told him, ‘You need to be alone,’ and he was devastated.”

The couple – parents of four daughters Naomi, 36, Azriél, 33, Tera, 26, and 21-year-old Wynfrey and son Isaiah, 19 – have lived in Pasadena, California, for 25 years, but they certainly have had difficult times as a family as well. experienced.

Rebecca admitted she still holds Terry (pictured together in 2021), to whom she has been married for 35 years, to a certain ‘standard’

‘There was a period in our lives when we could have been homeless,’ revealed Rebecca (pictured in 2018)

“There was a time in our lives when we could have been homeless,” Rebecca revealed.

‘And of course we always say that God takes care of us, because something has happened for us.

“But it was a week before we had to leave our house and we had nowhere to go, and something came through in the nick of time, and we literally walked across the street,” referring to when they lived in Burbank.

Speaking about what life is like now that all her children have left home, Rebecca said: ‘So now I have a lot of freedom, my husband and I travel more.

“Sometimes I get to hang out with him while he’s at work and jump on a plane with him, so it’s really fun to be an empty nester.”

“But I tried to make sure I had everything in order for when they left the house,” she added, before joking about Terry: “I will say this, he’s like a different kid!”

Now that her children are grown, Rebecca has had more time to focus on her clothing line and says Terry has been a major support, both financially and emotionally, and she even credits him with instilling a fierce determination in her.

Rebecca’s focus was on raising her children for years as Terry’s acting career went from strength to strength, but she said of her journey, “It’s never too late.”

“You can focus on one thing and then another, you don’t have to burn your candle at both ends to make your dream come true.

“I have a new courage and a new confidence in myself,” she said. ‘I feel so grateful and overwhelmed.

“I was with my staff and we were unloading our storage space and our studio and taking stuff to the store, and I just wanted to cry.

“I thought, ‘Oh my God, I have a store in Pasadena!’ It’s amazing, it’s just a dream come true and I see bigger and better things to come.”
