The terrifying new Netflix adaptation of Edgar Allan Poe’s The Fall of the House of Usher has left viewers ‘unable to sleep’ after watching the disturbing scenes.
Horror fans branded the series ‘very dark’ and ‘gory’ while issuing a warning to others.
Mike Flanagan, the filmmaker behind iconic hits such as The Haunting of Hill House and Doctor Sleep, is back with the hotly anticipated miniseries – based on the original author’s 1839 short story.
The series hit Netflix on October 12 and just one day later, viewers were already left horrified.
One person shared their thoughts on X (formerly known as Twitter): ‘Wow. Fall of the House of Usher was really good. Very disturbing and quite gory, but good. I’m going to think about it for a long time.’

The show follows siblings Roderick and Madeline Usher – played by Star Trek sensation Bruce Greenwood and Donnie Darko star Mary McDonnell respectively.
The duo have built a pharmaceutical business empire through almost unbreakable privilege, influence and power, but secrets begin to emerge when some of the heirsthe Usher dynasty began to die.
The wealthy family’s reality begins to crumble and the past comes back to haunt them as heirs begin to die at the hands of a mysterious woman known from their youth (played by Carla Gugino) – in a series of sinister events.

The brilliant cast also sees Star Wars sensation Mark Hamill, English star Rahul Kohli (iZombie), Marvel’s Carl Lumbly, Sex Education star T’Nia Miller as well as several up-and-coming actors.
Flanagan – who is known for being a master of producing horror in movies and series – is known for movies like Absentia (2011), Oculus (2013), Hush (2016) and Before I Wake (2016).
Some of his breakout hits include The Haunting (2018) and The Haunting of Hill House (2018) with Victoria Pedretti, The Haunting of Bly Manor (2020) and the teen horror show Midnight Club (2022).
