Terrifying moment when a gunman opens fire on Boston Street in broad daylight

Horrifying footage showed the moment two gunmen opened fire on a Boston street as children ran away in fear.

The chaotic scene erupted on a sidewalk in Roxbury, where bystanders went about their day, until an unidentified man in a red hoodie and black pants opened fire around 6:45 p.m. Wednesday.

Several people were seen scrambling away from the path of bullets, including a little girl, while another unknown gunman in a brown hoodie fired back.

According to police, about 20 bullets were fired on the sidewalk where several businesses are housed Boston 25 News.

No injuries have been reported and no arrests have been made.

The shooting was one of several in the city that shocked locals. Another gunman opened fire Tuesday while in the middle of an intersection near Gallivan Boulevard, the news outlet said.

But the violence began on Monday when Haverhill pastor Danny Mayers, 33, was shot dead outside Frederick Middle School.

It’s unclear if Mayers was the target, but police found him shot in a car.

The open investigations led Boston Police Commissioner Michael Cox to speak on Thursday about the rapid rise in crime.

“We’re here and we care,” Cox said WHDH. “From our perspective, people need to understand that this is a safe city. We can be safer with the help of the public.’

Officials also claimed on Thursday that there have been shootings in the city this year, but the number of victims has increased, according to NBC Boston.

To curb the rising number of shootings, officials plan to allocate $19 million to drive people away from crime by offering summer jobs and colluding against illegal activities, such as illegal ATVs.

In addition to fighting crime, Cox has spent the past year working strategically on police reform.

According to the police website, the reforms are aimed at community involvement, trust, transparency and improving all aspects of policing.

Cox has emphasized proactive outreach and worked to provide safety resources for the LGBTQ+ community when faced with threats.

Other police reforms include diversifying the workforce by hiring more Black, Native, and Colored people.

While shooting victims seem to be on the rise in Boston, other US cities are experiencing increases in homicides.

Memphis, New Orleans, and Richmond rank as America’s murder hotspots, with scholars linking their rising homicide rates to soft-on-crime Democratic leadership and low police morale.

a study WalletHub found that murder rates in the nation’s largest cities rose by a tenth between the first quarter of 2001 and the same period this year — and they’re still going up.

Researchers said homicide rates began to rise during the Covid-19 pandemic, finding that Democratic-led cities suffered faster rising rates than their Republican counterparts.

In the first three months of 2023, Chicago's homicide rate of 4.2 per 100,000 residents made it one of America's deadliest cities — worse than New York and Los Angeles, according to a WalletHub survey

Researchers ranked cities by adding up their homicide rates in the first three months of 2023 and comparing those numbers to the same periods in 2021 and 2022.

Memphis, New Orleans, Richmond, Washington DC, Detroit, Durham, Dallas. Milwaukee, Las Vegas and Kansas City ranked as America’s Worst Murder Hotspots.

New York came in 36th and Los Angeles in 38th.

Norfolk, Omaha, Atlanta, Fort Worth and Raleigh were at the bottom of the list of the hardest hit major cities.

Cities with Democratic mayors had rising murder rates at a faster rate than those with a Republican leader, researchers found.
