Terrifying moment surfer vanishes into monster wave on notoriously dangerous beach

A Hawaii surfer is lucky to be alive after being eaten and spit out by a monster wave captured in dramatic video.

Ty Simpson-Kane was the surfer caught on camera in the incredible moment he took on the huge wave at Peahi Beach, also known as Jaws, on Maui’s north shore.

The world-famous beach is a hotspot for surfers and is known for its super-sized waves.

The video showed Simpson-Kane being thrown from his board and turned upside down five times before disappearing below the surface of the water.

Instagram account fishbowldiariesrun by Sofie and Paul, captured the incredible moment on camera.

The surfer was brought to shore by security teams. He shared his gratitude on social media afterwards, describing it as one of the toughest ‘wipe-outs’ he had ever experienced.

In the video, he managed to hold on before his surfboard ended up underwater. He was then turned almost five times before the wave crashed completely over him

‘That was so hard. I hope you are doing well! I assume that’s true because you continued surfing. Many more photos and clips from you,” Fishbowldiaries told Simpson-Kane.

‘I’m doing well. Just a lot of water in the sinus. Thank you so much, I can’t wait to see them,” Simpson-Kane responded.

He later posted saying, “There are no words that can truly describe the energy and strength that increased. Pe’ahi lived in all her glory and I still can’t believe I was able to make a wave paddle.

‘Thank you to my family and my team for their support. I couldn’t do it without the love and support from you guys… to everyone who called and messaged me to join me, thank you.”

Commentators were equally impressed and concerned about the surfer.

“Gardiest outburst of the day??…..crustiest of the year to say the least,” someone said.

Another wrote: ‘What a bomb and what destruction!! I’m so glad you’re alive, buddy!!!’

Despite the terrifying moment, Simpson-Kane is ready for his next wave, writing: “We’re just getting started!”
