Terrifying moment shark bites fisherman’s hand before being dragged off his boat and into the water in Florida’s national park as shocked friends scream ‘get him, get him’

  • A fisherman had a terrifying encounter with a shark in the Florida Everglades
  • Video shows the moment a shark grabs a man and pulls him into the water
  • The man was transported by helicopter to hospital with unknown injuries

Shocking video shows the moment a shark bit a fisherman and pulled him off a boat in Florida’s Everglades National Park.

The footage showed the man reaching for the water as the shark jumped up and pulled him in. The man scrambled to get back on the boat as his friends screamed. Blood splattered on the side of the boat as the man came back inside.

According to local outletsthe man was airlifted to a hospital by Miami-Dade Fire Rescue Friday after park rangers initially responded to the scene.

Conservationists are now using the video to urge those who go fishing to take basic precautions while on the water.

“PSA: Please don’t make the same mistake and keep your hands and feet in the ship,” wrote a fishing guide who shared the video on Instagram.

The video was sent to Local 10 by Michael Russo, who identified himself as one of the people on the boat when the horrific attack happened.

In a since-deleted post, Russo shared the details of the heartbreaking moment when his friend Nick was bitten.

“Today was one of the scariest days on the water I’ve ever had,” Russo wrote in a caption shared again by fishing guide Mark Gore.

β€œIt started great and we crushed the fish, but the sharks ate some despite our best efforts. After releasing a snook, Nick washed his hands in the water and was immediately bitten by a big one [lemon] shark,” he continued.

According to Russo, there was no friend or blood in the water when the shark bit Nick trying to clean his hand, calling it “unprovoked.”

“The sharks are no joke in the Everglades and the warnings to keep your hands out of the water are not exaggerated,” he added.

In the video, Nick – who is dressed in white – appears to drop a fish back just before dipping his hands back into the murky water.

Leaning down a second time, the long gray shark jumps out of the water and grabs the man’s hand, which hits the side of the boat as it is pulled in.

It is not clear what injuries the man sustained in the attack.

Gore’s post also gathered responses from other captains and fishermen who have warned of hands and feet in Florida waters.

β€œI could show you a dozen places where troop of these lemon sharks lurk below. We are no longer allowed to fish in those areas because it is so bad. Anything from the size of those in this video to over 250 pounds,” said Captain Mike Venezia.

“It only takes ‘two seconds’ and an error of judgment to find yourself in a dangerous situation,” Gore wrote.

According to reports, shark attacks are common in the Everglades.
