Terrifying moment passenger plane bounces uncontrollably on a runway while coming into land on Spanish holiday island
This is the terrifying moment a passenger plane bounced uncontrollably on a runway yesterday as it landed on a Spanish holiday island.
The Canaryfly plane was carrying passengers from Gran Canaria to Lanzarote when it encountered difficulties while landing.
Footage captured by a webcam overlooking the runway at César Manrique airport showed the plane approaching the tarmac at 12:52 p.m. local time.
As the clip begins, the propeller plane appears to be already fighting the wind, but as it approaches the runway, the pilot straightens the plane.
With the camera looking over the tarmac and the plane’s wheels just a few feet above it, all indications are that the landing will be routine.

The Canaryfly plane (pictured) was carrying passengers from Gran Canaria to Lanzarote yesterday when it encountered difficulties and its wheels began to bounce off the tarmac
But the passengers would soon find out that they were in for something more than a normal landing.
As soon as the wheels hit the tarmac, the plane starts to bounce uncontrollably before careening down the runway like a stone in slow motion.
On the first bounce, the plane kicks back into the air and the nose tips dangerously forward. He bounces on his wheels again and tips forward even further.
On the third bounce, the plane shoots high into the air, turns and spins at a heart-stopping angle before flying back down for one last try.
However, it bounces off the tarmac again, prompting the pilot to abort the landing and regain altitude in the air above the airport.
According to local newspaper Canarian Weekly, the pilot circled the island and brought the plane in for a second attempt.
An image from FlightRadar shared by the publication showed the plane’s flight path matched the description. It follows the plane from Gran Canaria to Lanzarote, where it appears to have circled the island.

As the pilot brings it down for one last attempt, it bounces off the tarmac again, prompting the pilot to abort the landing and regain altitude in the air above the airport.
On the second attempt, the pilot successfully landed the plane. The incident is the latest in a series of disturbing landings around the world. From Skiathos in Greece to Lukla in Nepal, there are a number of runways around the world that would put any seasoned flier – or even pilot – on edge.
In one incident, the landing gear broke off on a plane bound for the United States after it was forced to turn around and perform an emergency landing in May.
Dramatic footage showed the plane landing on the tarmac, with the heavy landing causing one of the wheel bogeys to come loose and bounce into the air.
More video footage from Heathrow shows the tail of a British Airways plane making contact with the ground during an awkward landing during Storm Corrie last year.
In the photo: smoke can be seen coming from behind the Cargolux Boeing 747 after it landed. One of the four bogeys on the rear wheels took off when they hit the asphalt

Close shave: This is the shocking moment a pilot struggled to land a British Airways plane at London’s Heathrow Airport during a February storm that brought wind gusts of up to 90mph
Winds of up to 90 miles per hour caused devastation across Britain early last year as the storm ravaged the country, causing fatalities, leaving thousands without power, closing schools and canceling trains.
The footage shows the plane landing at an unnatural angle at London airport, before the pilot acts quickly to correct the failed landing as the rear of the plane scrapes the runway, pulling up and averting further damage.
In another nail-biting moment in 2017, a Boeing B7370-800 battled through crosswinds to make a dramatic landing at Salzburg Airport in Austria.
The clip shows the Enter Air flight landing with 50 mph winds as the pilot struggles to keep the plane under control.
