The terrifying moment a Chicago driver was carjacked by a gang of armed men who pinned him between two cars before tying him up has been caught on camera.
Surveillance footage shared online shows several men in two vehicles surrounding a parked car before kicking out the driver in a crime-ridden Chicago, Illinois, earlier this month.
A visual analysis of the video by Dailymail.com confirmed the location in the city’s Wicker Park neighborhood.
The clip shows a 2013 Audi A4 parked on the highway at night with its headlights on.
Two other vehicles quickly approached before stopping in front and behind the vehicle, surrounding it.
The Audi moves forward in an initial escape attempt, but within seconds, three men jump from surrounding vehicles and approach the driver.
One of them points a gun at his side window while two others drag him out of the car and throw him to the ground.
An attacker ties his hands behind his back while he lies face down on the highway, while the accomplices enter his car.
The victim watches helplessly as the men drive around him in their vehicles, before all three quickly drive away.
Rushing for his life, the victim flees once his attackers are safely out of sight.
The gruesome footage was filmed on a night when eight people were robbed during a 30-minute spree in the same neighborhood, according to local reports.
No arrests have been made for any of the crimes, according to local media, including some involving armed break-ins.
Chicago’s ultra-progressive Mayor Brandon Johnson previously supported the Defund the Police movement. He was elected to this position in May 2023
Chicago police told DailyMail.com they deal with “a vast volume of crimes” on a daily basis.
The Windy City has seen an 86% increase in motor vehicle theft rates over the past year, from 42,512 reported incidents in 2022 to 54,983 so far this year.
In total, this figure has increased by 227% since 2019, when 35,711 motor vehicle thefts were reported.
Murder rates have also increased by 19% over the past four years under the disastrous reign of Chicago’s penultimate mayor, Lori Lightfoot, while robberies have increased by 30%.
Chicago’s ultra-progressive Mayor Brandon Johnson has previously supported the Defund the Police movement and has been criticized for what is seen by many as a soft-on-crime approach.
He made history when he was elected in May as the first person to unseat the city’s Democratic-led mayor since 1983, pledging to make the city a place where “all residents can live and work free from the threat of violence.”
Chicago’s murder rates rose 19 percent over the past four years under the disastrous reign of Chicago’s penultimate mayor, Lori Lightfoot, while robberies increased 30 percent.
Johnson’s radical approach to policing involves reallocating law enforcement funds to social services like housing and education, while taxing the wealthy and local businesses.
His views on crime were highlighted in April when he insisted the city should not “demonize” teenagers for organizing a downtown event that turned desperately violent and killed several minors.
A terrified woman was filmed screaming as she was attacked by a group of youths during an orgy of violence – which outgoing mayor Lori Lightfoot said “wasn’t chaos”.
