Terrifying moment cars at illegal street race zoom before two people are killed

A man and woman were killed Saturday after a Pennsylvania man drove his speeding car during an illegal drag race in New Jersey, with his dangerous driving being captured on video.

Gerald J. White, 37, was charged with the deaths of Timothy Ogden, 34, and Lindsay Weakland, 18, when his 2004 Infinity collided with a 2014 Honda Accord and then collided with pedestrians during the event in Wildwood, New Jersey.

Shocking footage shows a vehicle pulling away from an intersection at high speed before being clipped by another car and driving into a golf cart-type vehicle.

One of the pedestrians White ran into was Weakland, according to local reports. She was pronounced dead at the scene – although police struggled to arrive due to the dozens of people present blocking their cars.

Obviously, Ogden was a passenger in the Honda Civic that White ran into. He was taken to hospital after the collision, but later died of his injuries.

It’s unclear if others were seriously injured, and prosecutors have indicated additional charges could be filed against White. The two murdered victims were reportedly not in Wildwood to attend the illegal car event.

White, of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, also tried to flee the scene, but was soon apprehended by police.

He was charged with two counts of assault by motor vehicle, evasion, leaving the scene of an accident and violating laws to protect public safety. He is being held in Cape May County Jail.

The pop-up car rally, organized by H20i, caused “hundreds, if not thousands, of people driving high-performance vehicles into an area without any planning, staging or authorization to create the chaos that led to these deaths and injuries,” it said. Prosecutor Jeffrey of Cape May. Sutherland.

The videos showed a range of reckless behavior by drivers of high-powered cars, including burnout, racing at high speeds without regard for traffic rules and donuts.

The result, along with the two deaths caused by White’s driving, was crowds of cars crashing into shop windows, parking meters and each other, leaving authorities with a massive cleanup.

A witness who saw the fatal crash said White’s vehicle was traveling “about 80 miles per hour” and was “running four red lights.”

Rahway’s Olivia Galing told NJ.com “We just heard a big bang, like a loud bang, and everyone started running downstairs, so we went to the corner and we saw the car on the curb and they already had a bed sheet. ‘

“There were so many people on the side of the road. Children were standing in the middle of the street on the yellow lines, recording things. So it would happen that someone would get hurt,” she added.

The “game plan went straight out the window,” said Wildwood Mayor Pete Byron, as thousands of people descended on town to participate in the car rally

According to the office of New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy, the police were so overwhelmed by the crowd that the New Jersey State Police sent troopers to Wildwood to assist local law enforcement.

“The governor is saddened by the senseless damage caused to Wildwood as a result of this event,” Murphy spokeswoman Christi Peace said in a statement to NJ Advance Media.

Wildwood authorities were aware of the meeting before it took place and issued a statement saying that “all visitors to the Wildwoods are welcome and must obey all ordinances and laws during their visit.”

But local police were soon outnumbered by large crowds displaying brutality, Wildwood Mayor Pete Byron said.

“The game plan didn’t anticipate the number of people coming down, which ran into the thousands,” Byron said.

“That game plan went straight out the window the second day, when the number of people here was grossly greater than the number expected by the state police,” he continued.

The deaths have seemingly forced H2oi’s organizers to reconsider their activities, as their Facebook page now shows that all admins have left the group and an ominous message has been posted in the ‘about’ section.

“H2oi will never be the same again,” read the updated section about me. ‘Even if all the sideshow kids’ [interlopers] stop coming the laws they put in place for car modification will never go away. It’s time to move on.’

The gathering has reportedly been around since the late 1990s, but the increased crowds and more zealous authorities have left the organization no choice but to shut down.

Last week, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration released data showing 20,175 deaths in car accidents in the first half of 2022, a 0.5 percent increase from the first half of 2021.
