At least five people — including a teenage girl who stars on Mexico’s U15 softball team — were injured after an amusement park ride crashed at a fairground in the northern state of Sonora.

The shocking incident occurred Saturday night after revelers descended on the border town of Nogales to celebrate the ‘Flowers Festival’.

Bystander filmed footage captured the moment when 15 attendees were trapped in their seats in the air after the Power Surge malfunctioned and stopped spinning.

Another video shows firefighters climbing a motorcycle ladder to rescue the group.

A short time later, the ride suddenly collapses into the platform as the firefighters were thrown to the ground.

Xiomara FĂ©lix, a member of Mexico’s U15 softball team that won gold in April in the Americas qualifier in Peru and qualified for the inaugural Women’s U15 World Cup to be held in Tokyo in October, was treated for head, chest and and ear injury at Sonora Medical Center, Mexican news outlet Milenio reported.

FĂ©lix’s injuries were considered non-life-threatening.

Firefighter Ángel Carpio suffered several injuries and remained hospitalized as of Sunday, the Sonora Civil Service said in a statement on Sunday.

The other firefighter, Gerardo Peralta, was diagnosed with a sprained ankle and was released from the hospital.

Dr. Gabriel LĂłpez, the medical facility’s chief surgeon, told El Universal newspaper that two other minors were treated for minor neck sprains and lower back injuries and were discharged.

Operation of all attractions at the fairgrounds has been suspended, the Sonora Civil Service said.

‘According to the exhibition organizer, the (trip) computer crashed and the emergency facilities to lower it did not work; for this reason, they decided to release the pressure from the main pistons to lower the equipment,” the agency said. “This happened when the firefighters extended the truck ladder to reassure people.

“Rescuers were analyzing how to perform the rescue maneuver when the ride collapsed, hitting the ladder and injuring the (five) people.”
