“I drank the poppy seeds in the morning, and about five minutes later, my eyes locked, and it felt like strychnine poisoning, muscles started cramping all over and I knew I was in trouble then,” he told Today host Allison Langdon.
He explained that his brother tried several times to call an ambulance, but every time they called, the number rang.
‘I can’t get an ambulance. I called and I called and I called and no one answered.’
Mr. Jordan’s roommate then rushed him to the hospital as his condition deteriorated drastically.
“I was having convulsions, every muscle was tensing through my chest, through my back, it felt like my kidneys were being squeezed to death,” he said.
‘It was insane. It felt like there was a chemical weapon in the bag.”
The musician thought he would die “about ten minutes” after the onset of his symptoms.
Jordan said he felt every muscle in his body cramp and his kidneys “squeezed to death.” After being unable to reach an ambulance after calling several times, he was rushed to hospital
The Melbourne man said a toxicologist at the hospital took him to identify the poppy seeds as the cause of his symptoms
“This was the worst feeling you can ever imagine, it’s like torture,” he added.
Mr Jordan explained that a toxicologist who was in hospital at the time immediately identified the poppy seeds as the culprit behind his poisoning.
He injected the Mr. Jordan with muscle relaxants so that his muscles stopped convulsing and his body calmed down.
Jordan believes his poisoning resulted from mixing two batches of poppy seeds – one for medical purposes and the other for general consumption.
