They decide to pretend they don’t know each other, which seems to go as well as you’d expect. Cue the holiday hijinks!

Director Pablo Berger was so moved by Sara Varon’s graphic novel that he founded an animation studio to adapt it into a film. Completely without dialogue, it follows a lonely dog who befriends a robot, the blissful summer they share, and what happens after outside forces separate them. Robot dreams is beautifully animated and deeply evocative – and will have you sobbing the next time you hear Earth, Wind & Fire’s ‘September’.
