Terrified Phillip Schofield battles raging storm in new teaser video for his show Cast Away as he admits ‘disaster has struck’

Phillip Schofield must battle a raging storm in his new show Cast Away. A new teaser clip for the Channel 5 show shows the star surviving alone on the deserted island.

The presenter announced this week that he has been secretly filming Cast Away this summer, in which he lives on a tropical island in the Indian Ocean for 10 days. The three-part series will air from Monday, spread over three nights.

The new teaser sees Phillip, 62, filming himself as he heads to bed in his makeshift camp.

The exhausted star tells the camera how hungry he is as he explains: ‘I want to catch a fish that will fill me up. I’m literally going to sleep holding this. Anyway, here we go and uh I’ll see you tomorrow.’

At 00:34 a storm is seen destroying his camp as Phil shouts:

‘Damn it. There’s been a disaster, a howling wind blowing through everything, it’s blown the whole front away.’

As he continues filming with his night-vision camera, the star’s tent can be seen struggling against the wind as Phil tells viewers: “This is about to tear itself apart and there’s still a good chance of that happening. I didn’t expect that.”

While Phillip was alone on the island for ten days, the production team was stationed 30 minutes offshore and were told to only intervene in the event of an extreme emergency.

It was described as ‘an authentic and intense physical and mental challenge’ and Channel 5 confirmed that Phillip was ‘left alone with just a handful of cameras to capture his own experience.’

It’s Schofield’s first time on TV since he left ITVThis Morning in May 2023, after admitting to having a relationship with a much younger male colleague.

The scandal, which dominated headlines for months, led to the rupture of his friendship with co-presenter Holly Willoughby and left his wife Steph “devastated”. The couple split in 2020 when Phillip came out as gay, but remained close until his betrayal came to light.

In a clip from the show, Schofield is seen tearfully telling the camera: “I know what I did was unwise, but is it enough to completely destroy someone?”

Viewers will see the sacked presenter reflect on the emotional impact of his banishment from mainstream television after news of his affair with a 20-year-old jogger emerged on This Morning.

In a statement promoting the series, Phil said: “This is absolutely a first for me and the only thing I felt compelled to do.”

“It spoke to me on so many levels. I’ve had a lot of time lately to reflect on my life, what went right and what went wrong, but I’ve always had the safe arms of friends and family around me.”

‘This time I am the only one, no phone, no comforts, no crew and only lip balm as a luxury. I look forward to exploring the island, trying to tie knots to secure my shelter and fending for myself in the wilderness… without help.’

‘Maybe I’ll be Robinson Crusoe, or maybe I’ll be Tom Hanks Wilson and float away into the wild blue sky!!’

Channel 5 editor-in-chief Guy Davies added: “This isn’t just a survival challenge, it’s a chance for Phillip to look back on the last explosive 18 months of his life and examine what happened.”

‘Audiences will learn how he thinks about television now and the future, as well as the past. And it will be Phillip Schofield as we’ve never seen him before – unapologetic, emotional and brutally honest…’

‘This lonely island existence offers Phillip the chance to confront the challenges of total isolation and the forces of nature. It also gives him time to battle with his own mind as he explores his own controversial story.’

It was May 2023 when the presenter admitted on the programme This Morning to having had a relationship with a much younger male colleague, and later lying about it.

He described their romance as “ill-advised, but not illegal,” explaining that it occurred during his nearly 30-year marriage to Stephanie Lowe, with whom he has two children.

Schofield subsequently resigned from both This Morning and ITV, saying he was “deeply sorry” that Lowe had been unfaithful.

At the time, it was reported that Steph was “devastated” by the revelation and angry that her husband had lied to her.

However, it later emerged that she chose not to file for divorce because she didn’t want him to “sink even deeper” than he already has, and despite everything, “the love is still very much there.”

In addition to his marriage, Schofield’s relationship with co-host Holly Willoughby also fell apart over the scandal, and the two are at odds with each other.

Schofield’s daughter Molly is now his publicist after leaving the agency that once represented her father.

PR guru Mark Borkowski says he made his tepid return to the public eye only after a year-long absence, during which he tried to disappear and get himself in order.

Borkowski called him a rare talent, saying, “He tests the waters. But the audience is very forgiving.”

Schofield told the BBC in an emotional interview last June that the affair had ended his career, and it emerged that the aftermath had left him with suicidal thoughts.

He told how his two daughters, Molly and Ruby, had saved his life and had ‘watched over me and never let me out of my sight’.
