Tensions emerge over Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s Netflix polo documentary with bosses unhappy about the Duke’s absence from five-part series
When Netflix signed an £80 million deal with Prince Harry, executives may have been hoping for a lot of exclusive personal footage.
But I can reveal that the Duke hardly appears in his new five-part documentary series about polo. Instead, it focuses on his friend Nacho Figueras, a little-known Argentine player.
A source claimed last night that Netflix bosses were disappointed with the extent to which the latest adaptation focuses on the unknown, saying the streaming giant expected ‘more bang for the buck’.
Through their company Archewell, Harry and his wife Meghan are executive producers of the series, simply titled Polo, which will be released in December.
But behind the scenes, it’s been nicknamed “the Nacho Show.”

The Sussexes (pictured in The Hague on April 17) are executive producers of the series through their company Archewell, but Netflix sees their multi-million dollar deal with the couple as a big ‘nothingburger’.
A source said it was “nice of Harry to please his pal (Nacho Figueras, pictured with Elsa Pataky), but Nacho speaks limited English and is just not mainstream enough to bring in the ratings.”
The couple signed a five-year deal for several shows in 2020, but one Hollywood producer told me, “What Netflix got in return doesn’t look great. People want personal things.
‘Apart from their documentary series, which had the drama of the royal family leaving, everything else they have produced has been disappointing.
“Any reasonable person tuning into a show about Prince Harry’s polo would expect Harry to play a leading role.
“The fact that he is not is extremely disappointing for Netflix. Let’s face it, polo isn’t exactly a mainstream sport, so watching Harry would have been the draw. Without him it’s marginal at best.
‘The Netflix deal expires next year, so the Sussexes need a big hit. This sounds like a big nothingburger.’
Another insider said: ‘For a show about a sport that is king, polo has hardly any royalties. It’s not the Harry show, it’s the Nacho show.’
Mr Figueras, 47, has been dubbed ‘the David Beckham of polo’, but a source said: ‘Nice of Harry to please his mate, but Nacho speaks poor English and is just not mainstream enough to bring in the ratings to get.’
