Tensions emerge in Bec Hewitt’s marriage to Lleyton Hewitt over 14-year-old son Cruz’s desire to become a famous tennis player like his dad

Tensions arise in Bec Hewitt’s marriage to Lleyton Hewitt due to 14-year-old son Cruz’s desire to become a famous tennis player like his father

Bec Hewitt is not happy that her son is growing into a tennis star.

The Home and Away alum, 40, is reportedly feeling the pressure of son Cruz’s desire to follow in the footsteps of his father, tennis legend, Lleyton Hewitt, 42.

Bec and Lleyton are said to be at odds over the family’s future, as Lleyton may end up on the international tennis circuit in support of their 14-year-old son.

According to New ideaBec isn’t sure what she’ll do with the rest of their brood at home when Lleyton and Cruz enter the pro circuit.

Being a routine animal, the former soap star finds it hard to change and, according to a family friend, the absence of her husband and son puts pressure on her to “keep things running smoothly at home.”

Last month, the Australian tennis champion enrolled his son in Rafael Nadal’s tennis academy in Mallorca, Spain.

And before that, the family moved from Melbourne to Sydney to the Gold Coast to pursue young Hewitt’s sporting ambitions.

The teen has had tennis aspirations for some time, and in 2021 the Hewitt family hauled up the logs from Melbourne and shelled out just over $4 million for a prized Burleigh Heads mansion on the Gold Coast.

Daily Mail Australia revealed that the motive behind the move to Gold Coast was all part of their ‘Cruz mission’ to develop son Cruz’s burgeoning tennis career.

Local sources in the tight-knit tennis community have revealed that the Hewitt’s have moved on from Melbourne’s unpredictable weather and Covid lockdowns in favor of warm and sunny conditions on the Gold Coast, where Cruz had begun some serious training.

Clearly, Cruz’s Wimbledon champion father Lleyton was drawn to the coast’s many sprawling tennis centers – made up of a mix of grass, clay and hard courts – as well as the multimillion-dollar “champion factory” KDV tennis academy in Carrara .

The state-of-the-art center – which includes 20 courts, hotel accommodation, gyms, a swimming pool and driving range – will serve as a makeshift base for Team Hewitt as Cruz continues his rise in the international junior rankings.

Tennis sources have described Cruz as “just as good if not better” than his famous father at the same age and that the budding ace is a bona fide future superstar.

“The move (to the Gold Coast) is very much a sign that the Hewitts are getting more serious about Cruz’s potential as a future top ten player,” said a local tennis insider.

β€œThe key here is the weather and the surfaces. Cruz can train all year round and combine different surfaces, from clay to hardcourt and grass.’

KDV Sport is one of only two tennis facilities in Queensland with 10 hard courts – the most of all tennis courts in one facility in the state.

It’s clear that Cruz – who has called himself #ClayDog on his own Instagram and has already won a major junior title on clay – is emerging as something of a specialist on the surface.

“Cruz and Lleyton have certainly been up and running here and Cruz has played in a few tournaments in the past,” a KDV staffer, who declined to be named, told The Mail Online.

Clearly, Cruz has also joined the center’s high-quality program.
