Alex de Minaur and girlfriend Katie Boulter were all smiles during the first day of the United Cup in Perth, despite tennis' power couple facing off.

British star Boulter, 27, wore a toothy grin as she greeted De Minaur, 24, ahead of the opening round of matches on Friday, which saw the Australian lose a three-set thriller to Cameron Norrie.

De Minaur and Boulter were the talk of Wimbledon earlier this year and tennis fans were eager to see the pair go toe-to-toe on court on Friday.

De Minaur remained tight-lipped about the prospect of meeting Boulter, although he teased that he knows all of his girlfriend's “weaknesses” after spending countless hours watching her play.

However, Boulter's Great Britain came out on top and the visitors won 2-0

“Well, you never know until you sign on the dotted line, come that mixed (double),” a cryptic de Minaur said on Thursday.

'I could be an option (for doubles). I've played mixed with Katie in the past, so I know all her weaknesses!

'I've seen enough of her matches to know where to attack. When we go out on the track, it's all business.”

It was at this point that Australian captain John Millman intervened to fire on his friend.

'My wife has no weaknesses. That's pretty brave of you to say that (about Katie),” Millman said.

Boulter, the No. 1 woman in British tennis, showed off her Christmas photos with her partner

'You're in trouble. (You) might sleep on the pull-out bed in my room tonight.”

Ultimately, De Minaur and Boulter did not cross paths when the pair played in singles matches.

Boulter showed her good form heading into next month's Australian Open, beating Australian rival Ajla Tomljanovic in straight sets to seal an unassailable 2-0 lead and give Great Britain victory in their opening game.

Earlier this week, Boulter showed off her romantic Christmas with De Minaur by posting a series of loved-up photos on Instagram.
