Being kicked out of back-to-back training camp practice has cost Tennessee Titans offensive lineman Jamarco Jones his job this week.

The Titans waived Jones about three hours after he failed to finish Thursday’s practice following a blindside block on linebacker Chance Campbell.

Jones was ejected Tuesday after a brief skirmish with two-time Pro Bowl defenseman Jeffery Simmons.

When asked if Thursday’s block was clean, Titans coach Mike Vrabel said no and that’s not how they want to practice like that because that would be a penalty in a game.

Vrabel had labeled Jones a contender to start right tackle when the Titans first reported for training camp on July 25.

Jones made an illegal blindside block during Thursday’s practice and started a brawl on Tuesday

Vrabel was asked on Thursday whether the training layoff hurt Jones’ chances.

“I think you just have to know how to practice,” Vrabel said. “We talk all the time about being competitive and going to that line, and definitely not going to do anything that hurts the team. We don’t want to see that.’

The Titans signed Jones in March 2022 after he spent his first three seasons in Seattle. Waiving Jones leaves Tennessee with a $1.4 million dead cap hit.

He never appeared in a game with the Titans after being placed on injured reserve on September 22, 2022.

Titans starting OL Nicholas Petit-Frere unavailable due to violation of NFL betting policy

Tennessee’s only NFL franchise began with a training camp with Jones taking the most first-team representatives at right tackle.

Last season’s starter Nicholas Petit-Frere is serving a six-game suspension for violating the league’s gambling policy.

Veteran lineman Chris Hubbard, sophomore lineman Andrew Rupcich and rookies Jaelyn Duncan and John Ojukwu are now content with the starting role vacancy.

After Jones was released from practice, Hubbard was involved in training first-team representatives.
