Tennant Creek: Four-year-old girl is allegedly sexually assaulted by a man who was ‘seen fleeing after she screamed’

A four-year-old girl was allegedly sexually assaulted in her home by a man who was seen running away from the property.

Northern Territory police arrested a 52-year-old man on Wednesday evening after a witness heard screams coming from the little girl’s home in Tennant Creek.

The witness saw the man fleeing from the building, according to a statement.

The man has been taken into police custody and is assisting with the investigation.

The gruesome crime is said to have taken place in remote Tennant Creek, about 1,000 kilometers south of Darwin

“Our thoughts are with the four-year-old child and her family at this difficult time,” he said.

It comes after an unrelated alleged incident in which a seven-year-old was sexually assaulted in the outback town in December 2023.

Tennant Creek is located on the Stuart Highway, approximately 988 kilometers south of Darwin, and has a population of 3,080.
