A baby girl who was taken to hospital with serious head injuries was allegedly hit on the head with a bottle last Saturday night during her first birthday party.

Police said the child suffered a skull fracture after a 26-year-old man allegedly attacked her with a “stupid” object in the Northern Territory town of Tennant Creek, 500 km north of Alice Springs.

Northern Territory Police allege the man was drunk when he attacked the child – possibly by accident, as he threw a bottle at another partygoer and allegedly punched the child instead.

There are serious fears for the well-being of the child.
