Tenant Shares Images of Terrible $1,285-PER-MONTH San Francisco Apartment With Bed CAMP STOVE Instead of Kitchen and Cave Under Stairs in Place of Closet: ‘It’s a literal coffin’

A rental listing, which gives a whole new meaning to the term ‘breakfast in bed’, has sparked outrage for its potentially dangerous setup.

The questionable rental – which also comes with a ‘killer closet’ – was originally posted on what appears to be a property Facebook page, but was screenshotted and shared to Reddit on the LandlordLove subreddit.

In place of a kitchen, the tiny rental house has a camp stove next to the bed, as well as a dingy storage closet and a small window — all for the price of $1,285 a month.

The listing appears to be in San Francisco, which has been hit by exorbitant rent increases as California faces a housing crisis.

This second photo shows that the stovetop is only a few feet from the bed, with only one visible window. Rent is priced at $1,285 per month

“Not only can you face death when you cook next to your bed, but the unit comes complete with a kill cabinet!” Reddit user Meezha wrote on the post, along with some screenshots of the original presentation.

“Yes, I messaged them and will report back,” they added.

The Reddit post was captioned: ‘For $1285 a month you can seal your fate with CO poisoning.’

Images also revealed the camp stove had two burners – with a label clearly reading “for outdoor use only” – on a white desk.

The next photo showed more of the room, with the bed apparently in the corner just a few feet from the desk. Near the stove is a small built-in set of shelves and one small window.

The last photo appears to be a storage area, with extremely dim lighting and a dirty floor.

The listing says it is a one-bedroom, one-bathroom, but images of the amenities are not shown.

Reddit users were shocked by the grim reality of trying to find a rental property.

Reddit users couldn’t believe the state of the apartment and expressed their shock in the thread

‘Jesus fucking Christ… a literal coffin…’ wrote one in disbelief.

“San Francisco landlords are a special kind of evil incarnate,” declared another.

“It looks like a basement,” commented another.

“There is no vent for the stove which is to be used as propane only outside,” explained another. “Those don’t look like egress windows when they’re actually below ground level.”

Camp stoves should never be used indoors as they will produce too much carbon monoxide. If exposed to the gas for as little as two hours, the invisible, odorless gas can cause permanent neurological damage and even death.

The gas can build up in your blood and push the oxygen out of your system. If you inhale it, it causes headache, weakness, dizziness, vomiting, confusion, blurred vision, shortness of breath and difficulty breathing.

Carbon monoxide poisoning often presents first as flu-like symptoms, including headache, weakness, upset stomach and vomiting.

This is preventable by keeping up with appliance maintenance and installing detectors in the home. Although the latter is highly effective, few Americans have installed life-saving carbon monoxide detectors.

In California, high rent prices have driven a mass migration out of the state — with 500,000 more people leaving than arriving in a two-year period.

According to the property-finding site Zillow, the average San Francisco studio apartment is a whopping $2,200 a month.

The average studio apartment in Palo Alto, home to tech moguls and the center of Silicon Valley, is even more expensive at $2,300 a month.
