Tenacious D’s show in Newcastle gets ‘postponed’ after Jack Black’s bandmate made controversial remark about Donald Trump shooting… while Aussie senator calls for the band to be DEPORTED

Tenacious D’s final show in Australia has been ‘postponed’ at the last minute after a bandmate of Jack Black made a divisive comment about Donald Trump.

Kyle Gass caused controversy on Sunday night when he made a comment on stage in Sydney about the attempted assassination of the former US president.

During their performance, Black brought out a birthday cake for Gass and asked him to make a wish. To which Gass replied, “Don’t miss Trump next time.”

His comment was in reference to the attempted assassination of the former US president at a rally in Milwaukee, Pennsylvania, in which Trump’s right ear was hit and a spectator was killed.

Just two days after the comment, Tenacious D’s July 16 gig in Newcastle, NSW was cancelled with hours’ notice, despite Black having been spotted in the city earlier that day.

Meanwhile, Australian politician Ralph Babet, a Trump supporter, has called for the American rock duo to be expelled from the country over Gass’s comment.

Frontier Touring confirmed on Instagram on Tuesday that Tenacious D’s Newcastle show will not go ahead, just three hours before gates were due to open.

The concert promoter gave no reason for the last-minute cancellation, but urged fans to hold on to their tickets and wait for “further information.”

In a statement, they wrote: ‘Frontier Touring regrets to announce that tonight’s Tenacious D concert at Newcastle Entertainment Centre has been postponed.

‘Ticket holders are asked to hold on to their tickets until more information is available.’

Fans expressed their anger at the last-minute cancellation in the comments, with some even claiming they had already queued outside the Newcastle Entertainment Centre for the show.

One wrote: ‘Why!? We’re queuing at the Entertainment Centre!’ while another said: ‘How can this happen. He’s literally been spotted, I’m Newcastle.’

A third fumed: ‘Are you kidding me? We drove for hours, had a row with our accommodation and cancelled a few hours beforehand.’

A fourth said: ‘Wtf I hope the rest of the Australian tour doesn’t get cancelled’, while a fifth was furious: ‘Absolute bullshit!!!’

Fans also wondered if Tenacious D’s upcoming Spicy Meatball tour in Brisbane, Melbourne and Adelaide would still go ahead.

The cancellation comes after Black was spotted in Newcastle earlier on Monday buying a Seiko watch from local store Thomas’ Timepieces, with other fans saying they had taken selfies with the Hollywood star in the city.

Daily Mail Australia has contacted representatives of Tenacious D for comment.

Elsewhere on Tuesday, Australian Senator Ralph Babet called for a

Senator Ralph Babet on Tuesday took to X – formerly known as Twitter – to condemn a comment Kyle Gass made about Trump on stage in Sydney on Sunday night.

Babet, a conservative member of the United Australia Party, has condemned Gass’s comment as “malicious” and has called for Tenacious D to be deported from Australia over the remarks.

Babet, who has previously openly expressed his support for Trump, criticized the comment as “scandalous, disgusting, filthy, evil and in no way acceptable.”

He described Trump as the “soon to be 47th president,” despite the fact that Trump is still in the race against President Joe Biden in the November 2024 election.

“Tenacious D should be immediately deported after promising to kill Donald Trump during their Sydney concert,” Babet said in a statement.

‘I strongly condemn the call for political violence by Tenacious D in Sydney last Sunday.

“Advocating or wishing for the assassination of a president is outrageous, disgusting, filthy, evil and in no way acceptable.

“This was not a joke, he was deadly serious when he wished for the death of the president.”

Babet called on Prime Minister Anthony Albanese to support his call for the band’s deportation and continued his strong statement.

He added: ‘I call on the Prime Minister, Anthony Albanese, to join me in condemning Tenacious D, Jack Black and bandmate Kyle Gass, and I call on the Minister for Immigration, Andrew Giles, to revoke their visas and deport them immediately.

“Anything less than deportation is an endorsement of the shooting and attempted assassination of Donald J. Trump, the 45th and soon to be 47th President of the United States.

“It is unthinkable that Tenacious D remains in Australia when he has called for the death of a president. It confirms the weakness of our current Prime Minister.”
