The bacteria can be spread through contact with contaminated food or water, or through contact with sick people.

The NSW Food Authority said: ‘Consumers should not consume this product’.

‘Consumers concerned about their health should seek medical advice and return the products to the place of purchase for a full cash refund.’

The affected batches of 2 liter whole milk can be used on the dates 31/10/2023 and 02/11/2023.

The involved batches of light milk of 2.5 percent of 2 liters have a use date of 31/10/2023 and 02/11/2023.

And low-fat 0 percent 2L milk lots affected by the recall must have been used by 10/31/2023.

The federal government’s Health Direct website says some strains of E. coli can cause minor illnesses, such as traveler’s diarrhea and food poisoning, resulting in diarrhea, stomach pain, nausea and vomiting, which usually last a few days.

It can also cause urinary tract infections, including a burning sensation when urinating.
