Almost half of GP practices in England are organising strike action for the first time in 60 years over a funding dispute, a survey has revealed.

In a poll held by the British Medical Association (BMA), 98% of GPs voted earlier this month to take industrial action in protest at the previous government increasing their budget by just 1.9% this year. The new government has pledged to increase funding to 6% for 2024-25.

The survey among 283 GP partners by Pulse magazine suggests 46% are already taking steps to comply with the rules, with more than a quarter (26%) limiting the number of patients seen per day to 25.
