A man has died and a group of teenagers are being seriously prosecuted after an accident involving a supposedly stolen car and a scooter.
The 59-year-old was rushed to hospital around 9:20 a.m. Monday following the accident in Wynnum West, east Brisbane, but died later that night.
Police believe a group of teenagers, aged between 15 and 16, traveling in two vehicles fled the scene.
Officers claim the Nissan X Trail that collided with the scooter was stolen from a nearby home on the morning of the crash.
It was found on the spot and seized.
A man has died after being allegedly hit by a Nissan X Trail in Wynnum West, eastern Brisbane on Monday morning.
The four suspects were found at a nearby address shortly afterwards and taken into custody.
A second car, also stolen, was nearby.
Police said the motorcyclist was on his way home from a social event Monday morning when the Nissan allegedly veered on the wrong side of the road and collided with the scooter.
Inspector Lindsay Kilpatrick said it was a “tragic” event and both the Nissan and the scooter were badly damaged.
“It is both disappointing and frightening, it is a tragic event for the male rider, his family, the local community, the witnesses, emergency services who have to come to these events,” he said on Monday.
Police said the motorcyclist was on his way home from a social event Monday morning when the Nissan allegedly veered onto the wrong side of the road and collided with the motorcyclist.
“The impact on the front of the SUV, the stolen vehicle and the windshield is very, very significant and the damage to the motorcycle is also very, very significant.
“But the detectives are investigating and will get to the bottom of what happened.”
A neighbor said she heard the collision from her backyard.
“The man was in very bad shape, one of his legs was completely twisted, it didn’t look good. Everyone was just shocked, a lady must have been a nurse and just went into full nursing mode and tried to help the man,” Skye Aminita told the courier post.
Emergency services are on the scene Monday. Four teens have been charged
The alleged driver of the car involved in the accident is a 15-year-old boy charged with, among other things, dangerous driving resulting in death and not being present at the crime scene.
The alleged passenger, a 16-year-old girl, has been charged with dangerous driving resulting in death and unlawful use of a motor vehicle.
Two other teenagers, a 15-year-old boy and a 15-year-old girl, are charged with illegally using a motor vehicle.
They will appear before the Brisbane Children’s Court.
