Hastings Point, NSW: Teenage boy, 17, drowns after jumping off a bridge in Easter weekend tragedy

A 17-year-old boy has drowned after jumping from a bridge into a creek during an Easter weekend tragedy.

The teenager briefly resurfaced after jumping from the Cudgera Creek Bridge on Tweed Coast Road, Hastings Point, before disappearing underwater.

Emergency services arrived on the scene just before 4:30 PM on Saturday and were able to remove his body from the water.

Despite the efforts of paramedics, the 17-year-old died at the scene.

It is clear that the police are treating the death as a tragic case of misadventure.

“Officers from Tweed Byron Police District arrived and located the body of a 17-year-old boy in the water,” NSW Police said in a statement.

“A report will be prepared for the information of the coroner.”

It is understood the tide was receding and the water was shallow. 9News reports.
