Parents and youth are urged to be alert for symptoms of meningococcal disease and to act immediately if they appear.
So far this year, 29 cases of meningococcal disease have been reported in NSW.
Most cases have been due to the meningococcal B strain of infection.
Meningococcal disease is now rare thanks to vaccination, but it still occurs year-round with a spike in cases in late winter and early spring.
