Teenager allegedly armed with knives and tactical gear is arrested outside a politician’s office ‘with a manifesto threatening mass murder’

Police have arrested a 19-year-old man who was allegedly in possession of knives and tactical gear during a possible terror threat outside a politician’s office.

The arrest took place on Wednesday afternoon after police received a worrying welfare report about the man.

Sky News reports that the teenager is said to have written a manifesto threatening to commit mass murder.

In a statement, NSW Police said officers attached to the Newcastle precinct attended a property on Workshop Way where they arrested the man.

“After a subsequent search, the police found a number of items that have since been seized,” the police said.

The teenager was taken to Newcastle Police Station

‘After further investigation, officers became aware of the existence of a document that had been distributed to a number of public figures and media outlets.

‘The man is currently assisting police and there is no ongoing threat to the community in relation to this investigation.

‘The investigation is continuing by Newcastle Police District, with specialist investigators on site to assist.’

Anti-terrorist police are reportedly investigating.
