A teenage mother who was apparently in the country illegally made a disgusting excuse by putting her newborn baby in a garbage bag and throwing it in a dumpster.
Everilda Cux-Ajtzalam, 18, of Guatemala, was arrested on Thursday for allegedly abandoning her baby boy with his umbilical cord still attached in a trash can outside an apartment complex in Houston, Texas, on July 21.
She reportedly told police afterwards that she felt she had “no choice” but to throw the baby in the trash because she didn’t want her boyfriend to break up with her. according to court documents obtained by Law & Crime.
The documents further show that she gave birth “on the floor behind the food truck where she works” and then threw the child — referred to in court documents as John Doe, or CW — into a dumpster.
‘[Defendant] “He placed the infant, placenta and umbilical cord in a garbage bag, took the garbage bag to a dumpster and left the infant in the dumpster, tied up in the garbage bag,” a police judge wrote in a bail order, noting that the “event” was captured on surveillance video.

Eventually, a passerby heard the newborn crying from the garbage can and called 911.
Houston Police Department officers and emergency services arrived on the scene around 1:15 p.m.

EMS was then seen wrapping the baby in a blanket near the trash can. The child appeared to have just come out of the womb, with his hair wet, his skin cut, and his umbilical cord still attached.
Fortunately, he survived this terrible ordeal.
He was examined at the hospital and found to be in good health.
The baby is now in the custody of child protective services.

Cux-Ajtzalam now faces charges of abandoning a child with no intention of returning.
She made her first court appearance on Friday, where she was reportedly verbally abused by Harris County District Court Judge Veronica M. Nelson.
“It was pure luck that the child was found and cared for,” the judge said, according to the Houston Chronicle.
“Given that it is the middle of summer in Houston, Texas and the temperatures are high… I am setting bail in this case at $90,000.”
The prosecutor’s office requested $150,000 bail and a public defender requested $7,500 bail, Law & Crime reported.

Cux-Ajtzalam’s bail was later increased to $200,000 on Monday, ABC 13 reports.
She is said to be a flight risk as she has no ties to the country, according to Click 2 Houston.
Immigration and Customs Enforcement also blocked her release. Court documents show she was previously arrested by Customs and Border Patrol in 2023.
Court documents also reveal that she has an intellectual disability.
