According to police, the 17-year-old girl was grazed by the bullet that came through the window of Dunbar High School around 10:30 a.m. Friday.

She suffered non-life-threatening injuries and the school was placed on lockdown following the horrific incident.

Authorities say several bullets came through the window when the student was hit.

The 17-year-old girl was inside the school when she was struck by a bullet fired outside the gate.

She was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries and Dunbar High School was immediately placed on lockdown.

The Metropolitan Police Department suspects a gunfight took place outside, but does not know the reason.

They added that there is no active threat within the school.

Third Precinct Commander James Boteler said there were people in the area at the time of the shooting and hopes people will come forward with information.

Mayor Muriel Bowser arrived on the scene after the shooting.
