Teenage boy’s life cut short after horror crash in South Australia – as P-Plate driver of the Toyota HiLux survives the nightmare

A 16-year-old boy who tragically died after a Toyota HiLux lost control and rolled over has been identified as his devastated family broke their silence.

Benjy Weenink, a passenger in the HiLux, tragically died at the crash site.

His family told Ny Breaking Australia: 'We are heartbroken and still trying to make sense of this tragedy, but we will not hold any bitterness in our hearts but instead thank God for the wonderful 16 years we have had with our beautiful boy Benjy.'

Emergency services were called to Main South Road in Second Valley on the Fleurieu Peninsula, about 1.5 hours south of Adelaide, about 5.15pm on Sunday.

The P-plater driver, a 17-year-old boy, was rushed to Flinders Medical Center along with three other passengers – a 16-year-old boy and two 15-year-old girls.

The teens reportedly suffered non-life-threatening injuries.

The family described the teenager as a “special person who brought fun, light and joy wherever he went.”

β€œHe was warm, outspoken, adventurous, smart, courageous, funny, beautiful, kind and loved by so many,” they said.

β€œHe had the most natural ability to put everyone at ease with his wonderful character and sparkling smile, and he was loved by everyone he met.”

The family recalled that Benjy was “good at everything he tried,” including surfing, skating, guitar, soccer, tennis and bouldering.

β€œYou name it, he could do it,” they said. β€œWe are so proud that he is our son, brother, grandson, cousin and friend, and he is so deeply loved.”

Friends have taken to social media to pay tribute to the Year 10 student, writing: 'I love you' and 'You will be missed forever'.

The vehicle was reportedly traveling north on Main South Rd when the driver lost control and rolled over. The accident happened 2km from the Second Valley Caravan Park, where the teenagers were staying with their families.

Main South Road was closed for several hours as officers from Major Crash investigated the crash scene, but has since reopened.

The investigation into the crash is still ongoing.

The Year 10 student's death is the 106th life lost on South Australian roads this year, compared to 66 at the same time last year.
