A teenage worker was injured after a tyre crushed his leg at a mine in central Queensland.

The young man was injured by a falling tyre at the Moorvale mine, on the Peak Downs Highway in Coppabella, at around 11.30am on Monday.

The man is said to have sustained serious injuries to his lower leg. A Queensland Ambulance Service spokeswoman said the man is in a stable condition.

A BMA CQ Rescue helicopter was sent to the scene and will transport the employee to a hospital.

Resources Safety and Health Queensland launched an investigation after officers arrived at the scene.

“We understand that a worker’s leg was shattered while working in the tire warehouse,” a spokeswoman said.

‘A coal inspector from RSHQ travels to the scene of the incident and has ordered the incident site to be isolated.’
