Teen shot in the face by town council member while seeking permission to take homecoming pics in Colorado

A Colorado teenager was shot in the face by a city councilman after a homeowner reported an intruder, local police said.

The incident was reported Tuesday afternoon to the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office in Conifer, Colorado.

According to authorities, a homeowner reported two intruders on her property and called her boyfriend, 38-year-old Brent Metz, about them.

Officers arrived on scene and found two teenage boys, one of whom was bleeding profusely from his face, while the other was applying pressure to his wound with a shirt.

The two told police that Metz had opened fire on them and that they wanted to ask the owner if they could use the location to take photos of the homecoming.

The 17-year-old teen who was shot told officers that Metz shot him through the windshield of his car, before later being taken to the hospital.

According to police, the boys drove to the property and parked their car near the gate, then jumped over the fence to talk to the homeowner.

Metz was arrested and booked with first-degree assault, two counts of menacing, illegal discharge of a firearm and two counts of reckless endangerment.

When no one showed up, they walked the grounds trying to find someone to talk to about their request.

As they walked back to their car to write a note for the homeowner, they said Metz arrived on the scene and fired shots from his truck.

Officers said they found the firearm used in the shooting in Metz’s truck.

Metz was arrested and booked on first-degree assault, two counts of menacing, illegal discharge of a firearm, and two counts of reckless endangerment.

An arrest affidavit seen by CBS NewsMetz refused to speak to the responding officers and asked for an attorney.

The affidavit also states that the 17-year-old told officers he did not believe Metz intentionally shot him.

According to the report, the teen “heard the driver (Brent) say ‘oh shit, my gun went off.'”

Metz is a member of the Mountain View City Council, according to their website, and was sworn in last year.

Metz also allegedly tried to help after he fired the shot, but was pushed away by the other teen who asked “why he shot his friend.”

Authorities have not yet released the identities of the teens and the homeowner. Metz is expected to appear in court Monday.

According to the website, he is a Mountain View city councilman, sworn in last year.
